This 10-week meditation program for older adults is firmly grounded in the Won Buddhist Threefold Study teachings: Cultivation of Spirit, Inquiry into Human Affairs and Universal Principles, and Choice in Action, which together offer a comprehensive framework for personal growth and spiritual well-being.
Cultivation of Spirit focuses on calming and centering the mind, fostering a state of inner peace and resilience. Sessions such as seated meditation, sound meditation, and mindful posture training encourage participants to stabilize their thoughts and emotions, providing a foundation for deeper spiritual practice. Weekly activities like walking meditation and tea meditation further reinforce the practice of living fully in the present moment, harmonizing the body and mind.
Inquiry into Human Affairs and Universal Principles emphasizes the importance of reflection and learning to understand the interconnectedness of all things. By engaging with sacred writings, exploring principles of nature, and practicing calligraphy meditation, participants are guided to question and discern universal truths that lead to wisdom and clarity. Journaling activities and reflective discussions encourage self-awareness and an intellectual curiosity that deepens their understanding of life’s principles.
Choice in Action integrates mind practice into everyday life, translating insights and awareness into ethical and intentional behavior. Sessions on mindful speech and deep listening, as well as activities like gratitude journaling and mindful cooking, teach participants how to align their actions with their spiritual values. By cultivating habits of gratitude, compassion, and conscious decision-making, they embody the practice of bringing intention into all aspects of their daily routines.
